1778	Robert Barron – Patented a double-acting tumbler lock.
1784	Joseph Bramah – Patented the safety lock. Which was considered to be unpickable.
1848	Linus Yale Sr. – Invented a pin-tumbler lock.
1857	James Sargent – Invented the world’s first key-changable combination lock that was successful.
1861	Linus Yale Jr. – Improved and patented his father’s pin-tumbler lock.
1862	Linus Yale Jr. – Invented the modern combination lock.
1873	James Sargent – Patented a time lock mechanism, which became the prototype used in the contemporary bank vaults.
1916	Samuel Segal – Invented the first jimmy-proof lock.
1921	Harry Soref – Patented an improved padlock.
1924	Harry Soref – Received a patent for a new padlock casing that was strong and chae like the doors to a vault.
