Lock History – The Oldest Lock

In the Khorsabad Palace near Nineveh, archeologists found what is considered to be the oldest known lock. The archeologists estimated that the lock was 4,000 years old. This lock was a predecessor of a type of a pin tumbler lock. The lock worked by using a wooden bolt that secured a door and the bolt had a slot of several holes in the upper surface. With wooden pegs filling these holds, it prevented the bolt from being opened.
