Locksmith – Good and Bad News
I am sure that you have probably noticed that when you read news articles online about locksmiths – its all bad! And its practically that way for many other things too, after all – what else will keep you interested in reading or watching the news so often? So while you are reading about all the bad things about locksmiths, does it make you wonder about all the good things that happen in the locksmith business to keep the industry alive?
If everyone was getting screwed, then there would be no locksmith industry. That makes sense right? So what on earth is the locksmith industry doing that keeps it alive? Well, the number one reason that I can think of is… Locksmiths provide an invaluable service that not everyone can do.
So with that in consideration, why isn’t there ever any really good news shown? I would love for any readers of our blog to comment, telling us what a locksmith has done for you that really helped you. Whether you were locked out of your home/car/office or needed higher security locks installed… anything that a locksmith helped you with – we would love for you to share with us!

Lock History – The Oldest Lock
In the Khorsabad Palace near Nineveh, archeologists found what is considered to be the oldest known lock. The archeologists estimated that the lock was 4,000 years old. This lock was a predecessor of a type of a pin tumbler lock. The lock worked by using a wooden bolt that secured a door and the bolt had a slot of several holes in the upper surface. With wooden pegs filling these holds, it prevented the bolt from being opened.
Dependable Locksmith Chain… Broken.
Due to Dependable Locksmith fraudulent behavior, the federal officers seized all of Dependable’s computers and documents. Will this be the end for Dependable Locksmiths? Well lets hope so. Below, we are posting the exact article from The Jacksonville Observer.
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Federal agents stormed the headquarters of Dependable Locks, a national locksmith chain based in Tampa Bay, Fla., on Wednesday, seizing computers and documents, and arresting one of its owners for alleged money laundering.
The raid came days after a WTSP-TV investigation into deceptive sales practices by the locksmith chain.
“This reaches throughout the United States,” said Doug Smith with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the agency to raid the office. “Clearwater… is where a lot of the employees were working, basically in a call center-type scenario.”
Despite hundreds of complaints to dozens of different state agencies, it took a collective effort from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Missouri Attorney General Office, and Clearwater police to bring the company down because locksmiths are unregulated in 36 states, including Florida.
Investigators arrested one of the owners of Dependable Locks, Moshe Aharoni, charging him with federal mail fraud. An affidavit accuses Aharoni, 28, and fellow owner David Peer, 31, of laundering money through Postal Service money orders. A federal warrant is out for Peer’s arrest.
The affidavit also accuses the owners of instructing their more than 100 employees – many of whom were Israeli nationals in the U.S. without work visas – how to overcharge and deceive customers. The Better Business Bureau gave the company an “F” rating because of hundreds of complaints received over the past two years.
The bust was months in the making, and more arrests are expected. A St. Louis man – Eliyahu Barhanun, 29 – was arrested in a simultaneous sting in Missouri.
“More complaints will come in,” Smith said, “and you’ve got to remember, these are allegations, so there’s more investigating to do.”
U.S. Postal Inspectors have established a hotline for those believing they are victims of locksmiths’ deceptive sales practices. The phone will not be manned, but callers are encouraged to leave their contact information at 1-877-876-2455.
Balloon Boy Fritz "absolutely … a hoax," Sheriff Says.
Turns out the speculations that the whole thing was too crazy to be true… well was pretty accurate. Many people worried, stressed, and really had their hearts out for the boy they thought was in that balloon. To think adults who are supposed to be responsible and mature (what should be a requirement to have children) parents got their children to play along (lie to the authorities) just to get fame is just beyond me.
These parents get to face possible imprisonment, 7 figure fine, and a bill. This is probably the most justice I’ve seen in a while!

Probably the Most Exciting thing to Happen in Denver Metro
This is a very shocking story. Some people hope that it’s a prank, well it’s not. It’s real.
A 6 year old boy explored his way into a handmade flying saucer full of helium. It got loose and now he’s floating around in the Denver area. Hopefully the child is okay. Authorities are following him, along with news crews getting live footage of the saucer in flight.
Update: Craft landed, no boy has been found.
Update #2: Wow, so the boy was at home the whole time – hiding in a box in the attic. For one, I would like to know the whole REAL story. Why did his brother say he flew off with the balloon? Why did the boy stay hidden for 2-3 hours?
There were quite a few people that were tracking the balloon for two hours until it touched down. They followed an empty balloon for 50 miles! That’s a lot of money going towards their time and gas spent. Not only that – It took quite a bit of money to pay for the helicopters that were following the empty balloon as well. Personally, I am quite disturbed at this whole story. I am happy the boy is alright – things could have been a lot worse, but our state is in no condition to waste thousands of dollars chasing an empty balloon. Many tax payers are furious over this.
This boy had the world at his fingertips: was this a publicity stunt?
